Fujifilm X100VI
VERDICT
The hype is real. The X100VI keeps everything we loved about the V (the fixed 23mm lens, the hybrid viewfinder) and adds exactly what we asked for: a 40MP sensor and IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization). It allows you to shoot slower shutter speeds at night and crop heavily into photos without losing detail. It is the ultimate "carry everywhere" camera.
The Big Picture
In a world of clinical, sharp digital photos, the X100VI offers soul. It’s built around "Film Recipes." You can dial in settings that mimic Kodak Portra 400 or Ilford HP5, and the JPEGs come out looking finished. The new IBIS system is a marvel of engineering, fitting into a body that is barely thicker than the previous model.
🎞️ REALA ACE Simulation
The Look: True-to-life but punchy.
The Vibe: This new film simulation, previously reserved for medium format cameras, is now on the X100VI. It delivers faithful color reproduction with hard tonality, perfect for street photography where you want reality to pop.
🔭 40MP & Digital Teleconverter
Zoom without a zoom lens.
Utility: Because the sensor resolution is so high (40 megapixels), you can use the built-in digital teleconverter to shoot at "50mm" and "70mm" equivalents. You still get a 20MP image at the 50mm crop, making the fixed lens feel much more versatile.
✅ The Pros
- IBIS: 6 stops of stabilization allows for handheld shots at 1/4 second shutter speed.
- Design: Aluminum top and bottom plates; feels incredibly premium.
- Hybrid Viewfinder: Switch between Optical (OVF) and Electronic (EVF) with a lever.
- ND Filter: Built-in 4-stop ND filter lets you shoot wide open (f/2) in bright sunlight.
❌ The Cons
- Availability: Extremely hard to buy at retail price.
- Battery: Uses the older NP-W126S battery, which struggles with the high-res sensor (buy spares).
- Weather Sealing: Requires buying a separate filter adapter to be fully weather-sealed.
🤔 Should you buy it?
YES if you want to fall in love with photography again and want stunning JPEGs straight out of camera.
NO if you need to shoot sports or wildlife (the fixed wide lens is not suitable; get a Sony a6700).
